About Us

Sophia's Voice supports children and adults with disabilities, as well as caregivers and disability rights activists. We provide financial support for medical equipment(not covered by insurance), medical bills/debt, medication, medical appointments, respite, advocacy support and various other medical-related expenses. We also raise awareness to normalize facial differences and profound disabilities and work to hold social media giants accountable for protecting people with facial differences and disabilities online.

I started Sophia’s Voice in honor of my #SweetSophia and will continue it in her memory. Even though she couldn't speak she did have a voice and it was a powerful one. I'm so proud of the impact she had and continues to have on this world. It made her so proud to know she was making a difference. I promised her I would continue the work that we started together.

We believe unconditional love, support, respect, and dignity for all human beings can create a more accepting, kind, and inclusive world.

We never wanted to change Sophia for the world but wanted to change the world for Sophia so that society would be more accepting of those with facial differences and profound disabilities. I'm glad Sophia knew about the impact and changes she was making before she died.
Sophia is our beloved daughter and the inspiration behind Sophia's Voice. I began this organization in her honor and will continue Sophia's Voice in her memory.

Sophia was an inspiration to people throughout the world. She taught many the importance of unconditional love, kindness, and acceptance. She was beautiful inside and out and brought so much value to this world. She was the center of our lives. She left behind a beautiful and powerful legacy that we intend to continue on. Mommy, daddy, and her brother Alex and sister Lyla are forever changed for the better because of her.

The logo of our organization is also inspired by Sophia. The logo is of Sophia's actual heartbeat. It ends in a star because we saw a shooting star through the hospital window the night before she was born. We took it as a sign that everything would be okay, and it was. Sophia brought so much love to so many, and we are beyond proud of her the work she did with mommy to change the world.

People from around the world wear Sophia's heartbeat to carry on her powerful life and legacy.

Natalie is a wife, mother of three, and disability rights advocate from Charlotte, North Carolina. The birth of her daughter Sophia, who required life-saving healthcare, inspired Natalie to co-found Advocates for Medically Fragile Kids NC and the nonprofit Sophia's Voice.

Through her nonprofit Sophia’s Voice, Natalie works to raise awareness of healthcare issues facing people with disabilities, fight for equal access, and provide financial assistance for those with medical needs. Natalie has also worked with social media companies like Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, and YouTube to do more to protect users with disabilities and facial differences from experiencing hate speech and bullying.

Natalie's story and work has received national attention. President Obama praised Natalie for her efforts to protect access to life-saving healthcare for children like Sophia. She has been featured in media outlets like People Magazine, CNN, and The Today Show.

Although Sophia passed away in 2019, her memory lives on in Natalie’s advocacy. Sophia’s short life was an inspiration to many and Natalie has vowed to keep Sophia’s story and impact on this world alive. She continues to fight for positive change in this world for those like her daughter.
